Overview
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, be responsible for leading the
development and specification of all test equipment needed for present
and future validation and concept analysis.
Principal Accountabilities
- The design, development, maintenance and calibration of test equipment
and control systems for use on foundation brakes and axles systems
- Responsible for the safety, specification and commissioning of all new
and existing test equipment within the test laboratory
- Responsible for budgetary control, raising appropriation requests and
project management of new test facilities. Will also provide technical
assistance for the procurement of new facilities
- To provide specialist services which enable the most relevant and
efficient methods of measurement to be made on current and future brake
concepts and to define and maintain the accuracy of measurement
- To liaise with the engineering team to ensure that adequate
specifications are produced for new equipment whilst finding
improvements and developments for existing facilities
- Maintain contact with outside suppliers, testing industry and
professional bodies to ensure that cutting edge technology is made
available as appropriate for our instrumentation needs
- To be an authority and technical specialist on the capability and
limitations of test equipment and facilities available to ARM
- To lead, motivate and develop the test facilities team
- Meet budgetary requirements as specified and develop budget plans for
the test facility; provide guidance on budget plans for external test
facilities
- Ensuring work is completed to meet project schedules
- Undertake presentations on technologies and advancements within the
scope of test facilities management to internal and external customers
- Participate in Continuous Improvement activity
Education and Experience
- Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering Degree
- Have a minimum of five years experience in an automotive product
development environment
- Have previous team leadership experience
- Understand legislative requirements, both domestic and international
- Experience of health and safety requirements for electrical and
mechanical installations
- Understand vehicle performance characteristics
- Have knowledge and experience of data acquisition techniques
- Understand materials and stress and strain theory
- Be familiar with latest engineering methods
- Computer literate and proven track record of technical software use
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Demonstrate creative thinking and problem solving capability
- Be able to work effectively within a multi-discipline team environment
- English capability is a must
